A 60-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested at Burbank Bob Hope Airport on suspicion of grand theft after allegedly taking two suitcases that he admitted didn’t belong to him, police said.

A Southwest Airlines employee noticed the man, Gary Lee Jones, walking around the baggage area and carousels Sunday around 10:30 a.m., and it was “apparent [the man] was not coming off a flight,” Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.

“He walked around carousel one and two and picked up two pieces of luggage and walked down Avenue A toward Empire Avenue.”

The employee contacted airport police who caught up to Jones at a bus stop.

Officers asked Jones if the suitcases belonged to him, and when he allegedly said no, Ryburn said he was arrested.

The suitcases and their contents, which included jewelry and medical supplies, were valued at $3,000, Ryburn added.
