Good morning, readers. Today is Friday, August 17. Comic book characters are a hot commodity in the film industry.

"The Avengers," "The Amazing Spider-Man" and the "Dark Knight Rises" were some of the top-grossing films of 2012, according to the L.A. Times.  And the Disney/Marvel enterprise has a slew of sequels planned.
