Ramp, road closures planned in Burbank for 5 Freeway carpool lane project

Share

A $153-million project to construct a carpool lane for both directions of the 5 Freeway between the 134 Freeway and Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank will cause a number of road closures in coming weeks.

The Alameda Avenue off-ramp on the southbound 5 Freeway will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily starting Thursday and until Jan. 11, officials said Wednesday.

Additional closures may occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., if necessary.

Crews will replace the existing asphalt pavement on the off-ramp with concrete pavement and construct a barrier between the freeway lanes and the off-ramp.

In addition, Flower Street will be partially and fully closed next week as crews begin to replace existing sewer pipe lines at the intersection of Flower Street and Providencia Avenue.

The street will be partially closed from Tuesday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and fully closed during that same period from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The project is slated to be completed mid-2014, according to the California Department of Transportation.
