Region’s film and TV jobs jump 8% in April over last year

Hollywood had another good month, at least when it comes to producing local jobs.

Although the number of jobs dipped from March by 2%, reflecting a typical seasonal slowdown in employment, the county added 9,700 jobs from the same time a year ago, according to state employment data compiled by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp.

The figures -- which are subject to revision and do not count those who work as freelancers or independent contractors -- mark the third consecutive month for over-the-year job growth in the local entertainment industry. Show business also outperformed other sectors of the local economy. L.A. produced 3.9 million non-farm jobs in April, up 2% from last year.
