Pair acquitted of seat-switching charges

Share

A mother and son were acquitted last week of charges that the pair switched seats after the son hit a parked car while driving drunk, their attorneys said.

Witnesses told police at the time that they saw Catherine Miljanich exit the passenger seat after the crash, in which the pair’s sedan hit the open door of a parked Chevy Tahoe in the 700 block of Sixth Street.

But a man who was dropped off at his home by Miljanich shortly before the crash testified during the roughly three-week trial that Miljanich was driving, and her son, Jeff, sat in the passenger seat, said Jeff Miljanich’s attorney, Michael Raab.

“This is one of those cases where I truly believe the witnesses … simply got it wrong,” Raab said. “Jeff and his mom Catherine were innocent.”
