Report: Crime in Burbank dropped in 2013
Overall, crime in Burbank dropped by 4% last year, with violent crimes plunging by almost 30%, according to year-end statistics.
Violent crime — which includes robbery, aggravated assault and murder — declined from 243 reported incidents in 2012 to 172 incidents last year, according to statistics released by the Burbank Police Department this week.
Of all the violent crimes, police saw the most dramatic drop in robberies, which reduced 54% from 111 incidents reported in 2012 to 51 last year.
In the non-violent categories, property crimes — including burglary, theft, auto theft and arson — dipped nearly 3%, from 2,503 incidents in 2012 to 2,437 last year. Of those, the downturn in burglaries was the most significant, dropping from 383 incidents in 2012 to 285 last year.
Property crimes remained the most common crime citywide.
The number of reported fraud cases, including identity theft, rose almost 17% last year, with 699 incidents reported, up from 599 the year before.
Vandalism dropped almost 10%, from 585 reported incidents in 2012 to 528 last year.
No murders occurred in Burbank last year, down from the unusual two that happened in 2012.
