Help sought tracking cellphone suspect
A robbery and an attempted robbery involving cellphones were reported in Burbank over the weekend, police said.
On Friday evening, a woman was exercising in the area of Olive Avenue and Sixth Street when a man in his 20s approached and lunged at her iPhone, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.
The victim struck the suspect — described as Hispanic, and wearing jeans and a sweatshirt — and started yelling. The man made a second attempt to grab her phone, but the woman hit him again.
He subsequently ran off and jumped into a blue four-door car being driven by another man, Ryburn said.
On Sunday at 5:30 p.m., another woman was getting out of her car in the parking lot of TJ Maxx when a man approached her, grabbed her cellphone and elbowed her into the side of her car, Ryburn said. A description of the suspect was not available.
Anyone with information about the incidents is urged to call Burbank police at (818) 637-3242.
