Should there be any question about whether Burbank’s interim police chief, Scott LaChasse, should take over as permanent police chief? I don’t think so. City Manager Mike Flad said that the national search for a new chief could take up to six months, and that the primary focus is to find a quality candidate.
That makes sense to me, but why take the time and expense to hire a new chief when one is available for the taking? Chief LaChasse could take on the position of permanent chief very easily. Do it. Too much time is wasted in public government by arriving at long, drawn-out decisions. This is a golden opportunity. If there are differences between people, so what? Is everybody supposed to agree on everything? Besides, differences can be reconciled.
