Sports Roundup: Burroughs volleyball continues league winning streak

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs d. Hoover, 25-10, 25-14, 25-9: The Indians ran their Pacific League winning streak to 47 with the victory Wednesday afternoon at home.

Cole Kaitz had a team-high 12 kills to go along with two blocks and Levi Benitez had 26 assists and six aces for Burroughs (8-6, 4-0 in league).

Oakwood d. Providence, 26-24, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23: The Pioneers couldn’t add to their success in the opening game of the Liberty League match Wednesday on the road.

Zack Pikhart and Patrick Casella had 15 kills each, Westin Tengan had 42 digs and Josh Mayor added 35 digs for Providence (2-4 in league).

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy d Bellarmine-Jefferson, 25-11, 25-13, 25-16: The Guards suffered a Santa Fe League loss on the road Tuesday evening.

Bell-Jeff is 1-2 overall and in league.

SOFTBALL

St Genevieve 14, Providence 3 (five innings): The Pioneers lost on the road Wednesday in a nonleague game.

Giselle Camonayan, Carla Galvez, Rebecca Cox and Alyssa Camacho had hits for Providence (5-4).

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Crescenta Valley 99, Burbank 71: The Bulldogs’ 4x100-yard freestyle relay team of Justin Miller, David Lee, Ashot Gavurmadzhyan and Roman Rostomyan set a new school record with a time of 3 minutes, 24.18 seconds in the home meet Wednesday afternoon.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Crescenta Valley 123, Burbank 50: The Bulldogs fell Wednesday afternoon in the Pacific League meet at home.
