Sports Roundup: Providence volleyball sweeps Village Christian

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Providence d. Village Christian, 25-15, 25-15, 25-20: The Pioneers (4-3) earned the nonleague victory Tuesday afternoon at home.

Burbank d. Alhambra, 25-11, 25-14, 25-11: The Bulldogs (3-2) won their third straight match with a nonleague victory Tuesday afternoon at home.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Arcadia 10, Burbank 0: The Bulldogs lost Tuesday afternoon in a Pacific League match that was called early because of rain.

Burbank is 3-2, 2-2 in league.

SOFTBALL

Providence 8, Webb 2: The pitching and hitting of Madison Gibson propelled the Pioneers to a nonleague win Monday afternoon on the road.

In the circle, Gibson went six innings, allowing two earned runs to pick up the win for Providence (1-1). At the plate, she was three for four with a home run. Sarah Cox was two for four and Francesca Maravilla had a home run.

Burbank in Hart Tournament: The Bulldogs defeated Canyon Country Canyon, 3-1, and Chaminade, 4-3, in games Saturday.

Against Canyon, pitcher Allie Benson allowed three hits in six innings, striking out one and walking one to get the win for Burbank (3-1). Macie Jensen had a single that knocked in two runs and Amaya Broyls went two for three with an RBI.

Against Chaminade, Bene Snyder singled in the bottom of sixth inning to score Macie Jensen for the winning run.

Sarah Garelick and Jensen both went two for three. In the circle, Alyssa Porras went six innings, allowing six hits (all singles) while striking out four and walking three.

BASEBALL

Quartz Hill 7, Burroughs 0: The Indians mustered just four hits in the loss Saturday to open the Quartz Hill Tournament at Antelope Valley College.

Nathan Palafox, Julian Jaramillo, Devan Esquivel and Nicco Chuidian had singes for Burroughs (3-3).

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Burroughs in City of Angels Invitational: Elizabeth Switzer won the pole vault with a 9-foot effort Saturday at L.A. Marshall High.

Indian Maggie Martinez was second in the pole vault at 6-6.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Burroughs in City of Angels Invitational: Sarkis Tatarian was second in the shot put with a 40-foot-8 1/2 effort and Connor Van Dyke was third in the triple jump in 36-3 Saturday at L.A. Marshall High.
