Pioneer finishes fourth

Providence in Liberty League Meet No. 2: The Pioneers girls’ team received a strong performance from Jaii Jiang during Thursday’s event at Paramount Ranch.

Jiang placed fourth on the three-mile course in 23 minutes 31 seconds. The race was won by Viewpoint’s Nicki Maslan in 22:35.

The Providence girls placed fifth in the meet. The event was won by Oakwood (38), which was followed by Holy Martyrs (46), Viewpoint (79), Buckley (80), the Pioneers (128), Glendale Academy (144) and Yeshiva (no score).

The Pioneers also received scoring efforts from Therese Vesagas (27th; 28:54), Samantha Granados (31st; 30:05), Cathy Garcia (33rd; 32:00) and Zoe Camp (36th; 33:28).

The Pioneers boys’ squad placed fourth. Viewpoint (26) was first, followed by Buckley (29), Oakwood (73), the Providence (123), Holy Martyrs (123), Yeshiva (176) and Glendale Academy (202).

The Pioneers were led by Rafael Deligio, who finished 16th in 20:10. Other Providence scorers included Andrew Carrillo (21st; 20:25), Brian Aguilon (29th; 22:23), Eddie Mercado (31st; 22:52) and Yujin Okuda (33rd; 23:37).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Burbank 10, Hoover 8: The Bulldogs kept themselves in playoff contention with the Pacific League win Wednesday at home.

Burbank (5-7, 4-4 in league) had to win the final set of the day to pull out the win.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs d. Hoover, 25-9, 25-15, 25-13: The Indians (10-5, 7-1) remained in second place in the Pacific League with a win Thursday at home.

Viewpoint d. Providence, 251-14, 25-22, 25-11: The Pioneers slipped to 4-7 (2-2 in league) with the Liberty League loss Thursday on the road.
