Gonzalez named MVP

Providence in Liberty Christian Tournament: Pioneer Patrick Gonzalez was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
Friday, Gonzalez poured in 45 points to lead Providence to an 87-78 victory against Avalon.
Tyler Kidd added 18 points for the Pioneers (5-1).
Gonzalez stepped up and scored 24 points Saturday in a 60-55 loss to Capistrano Valley Christian.
Tyler Kidd, who earned all-tournament accolades, chipped in 15 points.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Bellarmine-Jefferson 80, Blair 48: The Guards had little trouble earning the nonleague win Friday at home.
The Guards pushed the pace from the outset, taking a 23-10 lead after the first quarter. The locals held a 44-23 lead at the half.
Rishonda Napier paced the winning effort with 18 points. Jasmine Smith added 14, Clarissa Larios also had 14, Johnese Milled chipped in 11 and Leslie Lopez-Wood had 10.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Providence 8, Yeshiva 0: Lauren Markey scored four goals Monday to pace the Pioneers to a Liberty League victory at the Glendale Sports Complex.
Shawnee Douglas, Pateel Margossian, Danielle Dominguez and Cali Polanco also had goals for Providence
Goalkeeper Carlee Renteria recorded the shutout.
