Indians clinch share of crown

Burroughs d. Pasadena, 25-17, 25-11, 23-25, 25-15: The win Tuesday on the road ensured the Indians at least a share of the Pacific League championship.

Burroughs (16-3, 12-0 in league) can clinch the league title Thursday in a contest at Hoover. It would be the program’s first league championship in four years.

Against the Bulldogs, Megan Stephenson led the way with 18 kills and four aces for Burroughs. Teammate Caitlin Cottrell added eight kills, Catarina Emerson contributed 19 assists, Keana Figueroa had 17 assists and Laura Howard had four aces.

Burroughs — ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division II-A — has surrendered just two games in league in 12 matches.

The Indians finish the regular season Nov. 1 by hosting cross-town rival Burbank.

Bellarmine-Jefferson d. St. Matthias: 19-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-23: The Guards shook off a loss in the first game Monday to earn a Santa Cruz League win.

Bell-Jeff (10-5-2, 6 -0) is in first place in league.

Jocelyn Cervantes stepped up for the Guards, tallying 20 kills, teammate Taryn Nelson added 10 kills, Amanda Maalouf had 34 assists and Samantha Casarez had 11 digs.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

Burbank Vikings: Just four teams from the local tackle program picked up wins Saturday in Week 7 games.

Recording victories was Junior Black (6-0) against Santa Clarita Valley Blackhawks, 56-12, Junior Green (2-4) against Santa Clarita Valley Apaches, 28-6, Midget Black (6-1) against Calabasas Black, 34-0, and Midget Green (4-3) against Agoura Blue, 30-6.

In losing efforts, Senior Black (5-2) fell to Canyon Gold, 22-0, Senior Gold (2-5) lost to Santa Clarita Valley Indians, 42-14, Junior White (2-5) was defeated by Canyon Gold, 16-0, Bantam Black (2-4) fell to Calabasas White, 16-14, and Pee-Wee Black (3-3) lost to Valley, 38-8.

Bantam Green (5-1) and Pee-Wee White (1-5) had byes.
