Dogs capture tourney title

SOFTBALL

Burbank in High Desert Classic: The Bulldogs claimed the Division 2 championship of the tournament Saturday with a 4-2 win against Victor Valley in Lancaster.

Freshman Caitlyn Brooks was named the Division 2 Most Valuable Player and Nalani Hernandez, Katie Hooper and Laina Do were all named to the all-tournament team for Burbank (7-1).

In the circle, Brooks had six strikeouts in the championship game and is now 5-0 on the season. Hernandez was two for three with a walk and Hooper was two for three with three runs batted in. In addition, Ashley Russo was two for three with a run scored and Kaitlin Brooks was two for three with a run scored.

In a 4-0 semifinal win against Sultana, Russo picked up the win with five strikeouts. Do was two for three with a run scored and Hooper had two runs scored with a double.

TRACK AND FIELD

Burbank in Azusa Pacific Meet of Champions: The Bulldogs had some fine results in the event Saturday at Azusa Pacific University.

In the varsity rated mile, Isaiah Amos notched a 4 minute 20.15 mark to place 10th. In the 3,200 meters Sergio Fraire was third (9:32), Bernie Corea was sixth (9:40) and Chris Huezo was eighth (9:45).

Zach Solomon was fourth (9:47) in his heat of the 3,200, Arsen Mkrtchyan was fourth (2:00.54) in freshman/sophomore invitational 800, Elliot Choe was third (10:10) in freshman/sophomore rated 3,200 and Ethan Moskowitz was ninth (10:18) in the same race. Jake Miller was third (10:24) in his heat of the freshman/sophomore 3,200.

BASEBALL

Capistrano Valley 11, Burbank 4: The Bulldogs had eight hits but lost the game Saturday at USC.

Paul Frias was two for three with a run batted in and a run scored for Burbank, which took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Harrison Hernandez was two for three with an RBI and Rylan Mersola and Ian McKinnon also knocked in runs for the Bulldogs.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Burroughs 18, Pasadena 0: The Indians earned the Pacific League victory Tuesday on the road.

Burroughs (6-1 in league) is in second place in league, one game behind Arcadia.
