Pioneers girls’ basketball team gets showcase win

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 69, St. Margaret’s 45: Playing in the Small Schools Showcase Saturday at Brethren Christian High, Katia Dabbaghian was the showcase’s player of the game, tallying 11 points, six assists and five steals for the Pioneers on Saturday.

Kristie Kawamoto added 15 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Pioneers (11-8), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division V-AA.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 16-8 lead after one quarter and increased the advantage to 40-22 at the half.

Burroughs 63, Hoover 37: The Indians jumped out to a big lead and were able to coast to an easy Pacific League win Tuesday at home.

Aysia Shellmire paced Burroughs (18-3, 7-1) — ranked No. 7 in CIF Southern Section Division I-A — with 12 points, six rebounds and four steals. Teammates Sidney Ortega and Paula Galicia added 10 points each and Brooke Radcliff had 10 rebounds.

Burbank 63, Pasadena 40: Aja Locke had 12 points and 16 rebounds and Jamie Gonzalez and Ashley Linda added 11 points each to pace Burbank (10-11, 6-2) to a Pacific League win Tuesday.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Providence 4, Pacifica Christian 1: Steven Villeda scored two goals to help lift the Pioneers to a Liberty League victory Saturday at Glendale Community College.

Anto Boghokian and Sarkis Shaginian added a goal each for Providence.

Burbank 2, Pasadena 1: Burbank (4-6-1, 2-4-2) earned its second Pacific League win with the triumph Tuesday on the road.

GIRLS SOCCER

Burroughs 10, Hoover 0: The Indians had an easy time winning Tuesday’s Pacific League match at Memorial Field.

Emma Pineiro and Brianna Perez had three goals each for Burroughs (9-11-1, 6-2).

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Burroughs 12, Hoover 0: The Indians remained in first place and undefeated in the Pacific with the victory Tuesday on the road.

Sophia Piedrahita had four goals and Selina Gavez added three for Burroughs (12-7, 5-0).
