Football previews: Burroughs vs. Camarillo; Burbank vs. Inglewood
BURROUGHS VS. CAMARILLO
WHEN: 7 p.m. Thursday
WHERE: Memorial Field
RECORDS: The Indians and the Scorpions are both 1-1.
LAST WEEK: Burroughs defeated North Hollywood, 30-7; Camarillo lost to Thousand Oaks, 27-24
OUTLOOK: Burroughs was able to bounce back nicely against North Hollywood after struggling in its opener two weeks ago against Paraclete. The win broke an 11-game nonleague losing streak that dated back to 2009. The Indians did, however, still have trouble moving the ball on offense last week, something that also plagued them in their opener. Luckily for Burroughs, its defense stepped up against North Hollywood, notching two touchdowns. Eric Gordon and Davon Barker scored touchdowns for the Indians’ defense. Camarillo has enjoyed success as a program the past few years, as the Scorpions have captured the Pacific View League for four straight seasons. In 2012, Camarillo went 10-2 and beat Burroughs, 50-13.

BURBANK VS. INGLEWOOD
WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday
WHERE: Memorial Field
RECORDS: The Bulldogs are 2-0; the Sentinels are 1-1.
LAST WEEK: Burbank defeated Canoga Park, 65-7; Inglewood lost to Stockdale (Bakersfield), 55-12
OUTLOOK: Burbank served notice in last week’s win that it is capable to putting up its share of points behind a potent offensive attack. Running back Joseph Pendleton paced the offensive charge against Canoga Park, tallying three touchdowns. But James Williams and Tony Toledo added two scores of their own. But the Bulldogs’ defense has also stepped up in the first two games, as Burbank is surrendering just 10.5 points a contest. Inglewood (7-4 in 2012) is coming off a season in which it placed second in the Ocean League behind champion Santa Monica. It was the second league runner-up finish for the Sentinels, who took the Ocean League championship in 2010. Last year’s Burbank-Inglewood game was decided in overtime, as the Sentinels recorded a 21-14 win at home.
SOMETHING INTERESTING: The Burbank offense is averaging nearly 50 points a game.
