Burbank boys’ basketball notches tourney win

Burbank in the Dicks Sporting Goods Classic: After two close losses to open the tournament, the Bulldogs finally came up with a win Saturday, defeating Orange, 68-15, at Hope International University in Fullerton

Anthony Kardosh paced Burbank (6-5), which had a 39-11 lead at the half.

Burbank opened the tournament with a 44-40 loss to Marina and then suffered a 53-51 loss to Beckman. Four of the Bulldogs’ losses have come by three points or less.

“We just have to do a better job at hitting our jump shots,” Burbank Coach Jerry DeLaurie said. “We have really struggled with our three-point shooting. We have to get better at that.”

Burroughs 76, North Hollywood 58: The Indians (7-4) received 20 points apiece from Amaad Wainwright and Rashid Ewing on Saturday in a consolation game of the Chaminade Tournament. Wainright also collected 15 rebounds, seven assists, six steals and five blocks.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Burroughs 87 Frederick Douglass 70: Jordan Meltzer had a career-high 21 points Friday to pace the Indians to a win in the West Coast Holiday Festival at Burroughs.

Sidney Ortega had 15 points, Justine Barraza had 12 points and four rebounds, Jakarra Waddell had 10 points and Davina Del Castillo had six points, 15 rebounds, six assists and four steals for Burroughs.

Alemany 46, Burbank 26: The Bulldogs fell Friday in the West Coast Holiday Festival game at Burroughs High.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Alemany 2, Burroughs 1: The Indians played well, but couldn’t pull out the win Saturday in the Los Tacos Tournament at the Glendale Sports Complex.
