BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Burbank at Arcadia Invitational: The Bulldogs had a handful of competitors participate to the first day of competition at the 47th annual Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High.

Chris Miranda turned in the Bulldogs’ highest finish when the senior kicked off area competition by tying for 13th in the open pole vault with Mt. Pleasant’s Chris Sosa with a mark of 13 feet, 6 1/4 inches.

The Burbank boys’ 4x1,600-meter relay team had the distinction of running the invitational event with participants from four states.

The quartet of Brennan Doyle, Sam Gorman, Adam Navar and Arsen Mkrtchyan finished 19th overall with a time of 18 minutes, 24.15 seconds.

Burbank High senior Gabriel Ellman was in second place through the 3,200-meter rated second race behind a runner from Arcadia, this one, though, hailing from Arizona.

About 200 meters later, Ellman was elbow to elbow with Arizona Arcadia’s Johnathan Reniewicki before steaming into first place at the race’s midway point.

That would prove the high-point for Ellman, who dropped back to eighth a lap later and eventually finished 17th in 9:42.86.

“I thought I would have enough energy to finish and I didn’t,” Ellman said. “Hey, it was just great to run here. We’ve never had so many guys from Burbank here, so that was cool.”

Burbank’s Ethan Moskowitz competed a race earlier in the rated 3,200-meter run and took 20th in 9:49.15.
