Councilman Kelly Boyd will be grand marshal for the 50th Laguna Beach Patriots Day Parade on March 5, the parade association said in announcing the remaining honorees.

Boyd, a lifelong Laguna resident and military veteran, owned the Marine Room Tavern for 25 years before selling the business in 2012.

The parade committee chose Laguna Beach High seniors Elle Mahdavi and Alexander Rounaghi as Junior Citizens of the Year for their academic achievements and community service, while longtime Sawdust Festival exhibitor Dion Wright was selected Artist of the Year.

The committee selected Nicole Motherway, an eighth-grade Thurston Middle School student, as winner of the parade essay contest and Garry Ledesma, a Laguna Beach High senior, as winner of the parade program’s cover art competition. Each student will receive $100.

The parade is supported by program advertisers and donations.
