Driver allegedly strikes down pedestrian in Huntington Beach, flees scene

Police are searching for a driver who allegedly struck a pedestrian on Magnolia Street in Huntington Beach Monday night before fleeing the scene, leaving the man in critical condition.

Huntington Beach Police Department spokesperson Jessica Cuchilla said officers were called to an area just south of Garfield Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. and discovered the pedestrian, described only as a male adult, but no motorist.

Fire department personnel transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable but critical condition Tuesday, according to Cuchilla. Investigators are still determining the details surrounding the collision, including the identity of the driver.

All lanes of Magnolia street were closed Monday at around 8:30 p.m. and were reopened to vehicle traffic by 11 p.m. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact HBPD traffic investigator Cameron Houlston at (714) 536-5670.
