Around Town: Working Wardrobes moving to Irvine
After five years in Costa Mesa, Working Wardrobes plans to move its headquarters to a larger office in Irvine.
The nonprofit likely will move to the new 22,500-square-foot location at 1851 Kettering at the end of the month, according to Peggy Goldwater Clay, manager of political and community relations.
The current headquarters in Costa Mesa is at 3030 Pullman St.
Working Wardrobes, which provides career training and professional wardrobe services, will welcome potential donors to “own” parts of the new space through a “Hip to be Square” fundraising campaign.
For a tax-deductible donation of $10, $50, $100, $500, $1,000 or more, donors can own square footage or even an office, boardroom or dressing room space.
The building, which is leased for 12 years, will display a Working Wardrobes Hall of Fame, where donors will have their names on special squares.
According to Working Wardrobes founder and Chief Executive Jerri Rosen, the larger office will accommodate the nonprofit as it continues to grow its services for men, women, young adults and veterans.
The facility will have twice as many career training rooms and computer lab stations, additional warehouse space to process clothing donations, and a larger community room for client meetings, events and workshops.
The group is seeking donations of furniture and office supplies for the move.

All Costa Mesa fire stations to celebrate Fire Service Day
The public is invited to attend Fire Service Day events from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at all six Costa Mesa fire stations.
Activities at each station will include a Junior Firefighter badge pinning for children at 11:30 a.m.
Stations are at 2803 Royal Palm, 800 Baker St., 1865 Park Ave., 2300 Placentia Ave., 2450 Vanguard Way and 3350 Sakioka Drive.

Push-ups to help veterans in Irvine and Costa Mesa
Push-ups for Charity events to benefit the Boot Campaign will be held Saturday at Irvine City Hall and May 21 at The Training Spot gym in Costa Mesa.
The Boot Campaign is a national nonprofit that helps military veterans and their families.
The Irvine Police Department and Irvine health club Custom Bodies Fitness will host a Push-ups for Charity fundraiser outside City Hall at 1 Civic Center Plaza. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K fun run, followed by a 90-second push-up challenge. The challenge will have an open session for all ages and competitive sessions for high school teams and adults.
The Training Spot will host a Push-ups for Charity challenge at 11 a.m. May 21 at 1534 Adams Ave. in Costa Mesa.

Orange Coast symphony and singers unite for performance
Orange Coast College’s Symphony and Chamber Singers will come together to perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Costa Mesa campus’s Robert B. Moore Theatre.
The orchestra will perform Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 3” in C minor, while the singers will perform Mozart’s “Requiem” in D minor.

Nominations accepted for philanthropy awards
Nominations are being accepted by the Orange County chapter of the Assn. of Fundraising Professionals for businesses, corporations, schools, nonprofits and individuals for the 2016 National Philanthropy Day Orange County Awards Luncheon, scheduled for Nov. 17 at Hotel Irvine.
The luncheon, with the theme “Giving is Always in Season,” will honor businesses, groups and individuals for their philanthropic activities.
Submissions must be completed by May 30 at npdoc.org.

UCI team wins award for water system in Honduras
A four-member team from UC Irvine took home the ECO Spirit Award from the Metropolitan Water District’s fourth annual ECO Innovators Showcase competition April 28.
The UCI team worked with engineers to design a gravitational system bringing water to 160 homes in Choluteca, Honduras, according to a news release.
The tournament was part of the ninth annual Spring Green Expo, where more than 60 exhibits on sustainable products and services from students, businesses, conservation groups and public agencies were featured at Metropolitan’s Los Angeles headquarters.

Mariners Christian School raises $300,000 at gala
Mariners Christian School in Costa Mesa raised more than $300,000 at its annual Spring Gala and Benefit last week at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach.
More than 400 guests attended.
During the event, the school shared plans for a new synthetic turf athletic field. Mariners hopes to raise $441,000 for the project and begin installing the turf during the summer.

Project Hope Alliance collects $250,000 at Anti-Gala
Costa Mesa-based Project Hope Alliance raised more than $250,000 at its third annual Anti-Gala on April 17 at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine.
More than 250 Orange County philanthropists and leaders attended the event.
Project Hope Alliance assists homeless children and families in Orange County through education and re-housing programs.
* Concordia to honor Yogurtland founders at gala
Concordia University in Irvine will honor Yogurtland founders at the private Christian university’s 14th annual Gala of Stars on May 14.
Phillip and Michelle Chang, co-founders of the Irvine-based self-serve frozen yogurt business, will receive the 2016 Servant Leadership Award.
“Phillip and Michelle Chang’s vision and leadership, Christian business ethics and humanitarian efforts are the reason they have been chosen for this award,” Concordia President Kurt Krueger said in a statement.
The gala’s reception and silent auction will begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and a live auction at 7 p.m. at the university, 1530 Concordia West.
