Lifeguard hopefuls try out for spots in Huntington Beach

Hopefuls competed for a chance to be on Huntington Beach’s lifeguard squad during tryouts Saturday at the city lifeguard headquarters.

Applicants participated in 1,000- and 500-yard ocean swims and a 1,500-yard run-swim-run. The top candidates were invited for interviews.

Huntington Beach is looking to hire about 20 lifeguards.
