Great Park topic at dinner

The Laguna Canyon Conservancy will meet at 6 p.m. Monday to hear special guest speaker Mike Ellsey, chief executive of the Orange County Great Park.

Ellsey’s talk, “Growing the Orange County Great Park,” will focus on the progress at the park and will answer questions about its potential as a community farm, among other proposals.

The meeting is at Tivoli Terrace. Dinner tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members and may be paid at the door with prior reservations. Reservations are required; call Ed Drollinger at (949) 494-6465 before Saturday.

Environmental nominees sought for awards

The Laguna Beach Environmental Committee is accepting nomination forms for its Environmental Recognition Award Program. The program recognizes local efforts to preserve, conserve, protect and enhance the environment in and around Laguna Beach. All residents, businesses, community organizations and schools are eligible. The activity must have been initiated within the last three years and successfully implemented as of the date on the nomination form.

A nominee may not be affiliated professionally with or a family member of a current Environmental Committee member. Nominations may not be submitted by the nominee.

The deadline for submitting the nomination form to the City Clerk’s office is 5 p.m. March 19.

The Environmental Committee will review the nominations and recommend award recipients to the City Council. Awards will be presented at a City Council meeting.

Vietnam vets invited to march in parade March 6

Local Vietnam veterans have reserved a spot in the Patriot’s Day Parade, set for 11 a.m. March 6. Organizers are seeking area veterans to participate in forming a group to walk in the parade.

This group has participated in the parade since 1985.

Veterans are encouraged to wear old uniforms. The group will form near Laguna Beach High School, 625 Park Ave., between 9 and 10 a.m. Participants should ask for the location of the group at the check-in booth at Park and Short streets.

The veterans will then meet at the Marine Room Tavern, 214 Ocean Ave.

Blood drive set at church

A Red Cross blood drive will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 7 at Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave.

Donors must be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood within the last 56 days.
