DVD system ripped out of vehicle

A built-in DVD system and other property was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked overnight in the 1400 block of Coral Drive, Laguna Beach Police Lt. Jason Kravetz said. The DVD system was ripped out of the vehicle, Kravetz said. The total loss is estimated at $2,000, according to the report filed at 12:48 p.m. July 7.

Woman arrested after hospital visit

A 58-year-old Laguna Niguel woman was arrested after a trip to the emergency room led to an allegation of narcotics and drug paraphernalia possession, Kravetz said.

Susan Zwilling Perrine fell on the sidewalk and hit her head near Brooks Street and South Coast Highway while allegedly intoxicated, Kravetz said. She was taken to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach for treatment, where hospital personnel looked in her purse seeking to identify her. Inside the purse, the staff allegedly found less than two grams of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, which were turned over to police. At 1:30 a.m. July 9, Perrine was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was held on $20,000 bail, according to police records.

Boys accused of candy heists

Two Laguna Beach boys, 13 and 14 years old, were arrested on suspicion of burglary after they allegedly stole candy from a shop downtown July 9 and then returned for more, Kravetz said.

The store owner chased the boys after the first incident, but they escaped. At 1:55 p.m. the same day, the boys returned to the store and allegedly took more candy. They were caught by the manager when they exited the store in the 200 block of Forest Avenue. Officers were called and detained the boys on suspicion of burglary, due to the allegation that they planned to steal from the shop.

Their names were not released because they are juveniles.

Man allegedly abused dog

A Mission Viejo man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after police were called to Main Beach at 1:54 p.m. Sunday on a report of a man kicking and throwing his dog, Kravetz said. Officers at the scene allegedly saw the suspect toss the dog, a Shih-Tzu, six feet into the air, and observed it hit the ground, Kravetz said.

Arlan Bistoyong Ramirez, 33, was also arrested on a parole violation and suspicion of public intoxication. The dog was taken to a veterinarian and determined not to be injured. Ramirez was held without bail in Orange County Jail, according to jail records.

Woman accused of kicking and spitting at officers

A homeless woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting police officers and drinking in public after police attempted to arrest her in the 20000 block of Laguna Canyon Road at 11:32 a.m. Monday, Kravetz said.

Lisa Leigh White, 48, was found by officers sitting near the Dog Park and allegedly drinking from a beer bottle. When the officer approached, White allegedly resisted having handcuffs placed on her and allegedly kicked and spit at officers.

Stolen statue recovered at homeless site

A $150 bronze statue that was reported stolen from a nursery in the 20000 block of Raquel Road was found at the Alternative Sleeping Location at 11:13 a.m. Monday, according to Kravetz.

Teens accused of smashing a window

Two 19-year-olds from San Marino were arrested after allegedly hurling bricks at a store window after they were refused cigarettes at 1:48 a.m. Tuesday, Kravetz said.

Three men walked into the Circle K on Glenneyre Street and tried to buy cigarettes, but they did not have proper I.D. and were refused, according to Kravetz. The three walked out, and two of them allegedly grabbed bricks and threw them at the store window. One scratched the glass and bounced off, but the second brick went through the window and shattered it, causing about $1,000 in damages. The teens ran off, but were found a short time later.

Joseph Myles McMahon and Simon Si Yen Zhang were arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism.
