CASPERS, Ann Knoblaugh

CASPERS, Ann Knoblaugh, age 84, passed peacefully at her Newport Beach home on August 11, 2013. She and her twin, Evelyn Taverner (d.), were born in Los Angeles on February 24, 1929. Ann moved with her husband, Ronald, and their five children from Pasadena to Newport Beach in 1961. They built their home on Lido Island where she raised her family. Ann stood by her husband as he launched Keystone Savings & Loan and later rose to Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors in the early 1970’s.
Upon the unexpected passing of her husband and two oldest sons in 1974, Ann became head of the household and matriarch of the family. From banking to ranching, nothing was outside Ann’s abilities. Her favorite place was the Sunrise Ranch in Ramona where she spent most every weekend until a few years ago.
She is survived by her three children: Kristen Petros (Tony), Greg Caspers and Blair Box and her grandchildren: Erika Petros, Emily Petros, Alexandra Caspers, Ronnie Caspers, Ryan Box and Gordy Box. She also leaves her niece, Leslie Holliday (Russell) and Todd Taverner (Sarah).
Ann gave generously many philanthropic organizations related to children’s health, the environment, veterans and the arts. She was a Board member and contributor to Harbor Day School and Cate School. In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to your favorite charity.
Ann was a daughter, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a businesswoman, a rancher, a friend, and a valued member of the Newport Beach community. She was full of love and will be sorely missed. Her ashes will be scattered at sea in Southern California, where she will join her beloved husband, Ronnie, and sons Kirk and Rick.
A private family service is pending
