A Yorba Linda man was sentenced Friday to 24 years in state prison for raping three women, including one at a Newport Beach hotel.
Jason Ara Erpinar, 24, had been convicted Aug. 30, 2012, on two felony counts of rape by intoxication and one felony count of forcible rape, according to the Orange County district attorney's office.
Erpinar initially pleaded guilty to the felonies in August 2011 and was sentenced to 15 years in state prison. He withdrew his guilty plea later that year.
The three victims testified in a jury trial and he was convicted. He was also sentenced to mandatory lifetime sex offender registration.
According to a news release from the district attorney's office, Erpinar took a 22-year-old woman he met on MySpace on a date in March 2008 to two Orange County parks. They drank alcohol, and the woman became severely intoxicated.
Erpinar then took her to a Newport Beach hotel and raped her, and when the victim woke up the next morning, she noticed she had a cracked tooth and several scrapes on her face, the release said.
She went to the hospital and filed a report with the Newport Beach Police Department. A criminal case was not filed at the time because of the lack of sufficient evidence, according to the release.
The district attorney's office said Erpinar also raped an 18-year-old woman, whom he also met on Myspace, at a house party in La Habra in March 2009. At the party, the victim became intoxicated and Erpinar raped her on the floor of a bedroom. The woman reported the rape the next day to the La Habra Police Department, the release said.
The third victim was Erpinar's ex-girlfriend, who reported the rape after police contacted her while investigating the first victim's claims. She said Erpinar was physically abusive and raped her while they were dating when she was 18 years old between May and October 2007.
The 2008 victim gave a statement to the court during the sentencing Friday that describes her having to quit school because of her depression after the rape.
"You hurt me more than you know — physically, mentally and emotionally," she said. "For the past two plus years, I have been forced to have to live with what you have done to me."
