Team USA women play Saturday for Olympic berth

The U.S. senior national women’s water polo team beat South Africa, 25-1, on Friday at the Olympic Qualification Tournament in Gouda, the Netherlands to finish group play undefeated.

Former CdM star Maddie Musselman scored four goals, sharing the team lead with captain Maggie Steffens and KK Clark. Kaleigh Gilchrist, the former Newport Harbor High and USC standout, scored three for Team USA, which went 5-0 in group play.

Team USA will play France in the tournament quarterfinals Saturday at 4 a.m. Pacific time, needing to win to earn a berth into the 2016 Olympic Games as one of the top four finishers. The match will be streamed live through NBC Sports Live Extra, and will air on tape delay on NBC Sports Network at 1:30 p.m. Pacific time.
