First Pitch Baseball Dinner

The third annual First Pitch Baseball Dinner will take place Jan. 20 at the Huntington Beach Elks Lodge.

The dinner, held in conjunction with the Sunset League vs. Trinity League Baseball Challenge and the Newport Elks Tournament, is moving to a larger venue to accommodate the growing turnout, coordinator Chris Sorce said.

Guest speakers for the dinner, which is hosted by Edison High baseball, include University of Michigan baseball coach Erik Bakich, Long Beach State baseball coach Troy Buckley and Cal State Fullerton baseball coach Rick Vanderhook.

Diamond club (hall of fame) honorees include Todd Blyleven, who took people to safety in the aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting on Oct. 1. Todd is the son of Hall of Fame pitcher Bert Blyleven.

Other diamond club honorees include Tony Cappuccilli, a hitting advisor for the Los Angeles Dodgers; Don Sneddon of Santa Ana College, the junior college baseball coach with the most wins (1,072) in California; Rob Wigod, CIF Southern Section commissioner and former Los Alamitos High head baseball coach, and Bob Zamora, Capistrano Valley High head baseball coach.
