Corona del Mar junior goalie Connor Gaal was issued a red card for making contact with a Woodbridge player’s face after that player knocked Gaal down, CdM senior midfielder Brian Ford said.

Gaal’s mother, Heidi Neal, said in an e-mail that it’s Connor’s second red card of the season and he will miss the remainder of the season, including the CIF playoffs.

The Sea Kings (12-2-6, 5-2-1 in league) are without their backup goalie who has left the team, Ford said, so they put senior mid Nick Curci in goal. But Woodbridge scored on the penalty kick and hung on to win the game.

Ford scored on a header midway through the second half on a ball in from Greg Allen to knot the score, after Woodbridge (15-4-5, 6-0-2) had scored on a breakaway.

Corona del Mar’s only two losses this year have been to Woodbridge.

The Sea Kings, ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division III coaches’ poll, play against University on Friday at 3:15 p.m. at Las Lomas Park.
