Evan Spencer, who swam at Costa Mesa High and the University of the Pacific, was named All-American for 2010 in masters swimming.

Spencer, 23, who swims for the NOVA Masters, was the national champion in the 200-meter short-course butterfly and was a member of the national champion 200 and 800 freestyle short-course relays.

In addition, he was a top-10 swimmer in five other individual events.

Spencer was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in 2008. He lost a finger and the use of his legs for more than eight months. His recovery included walking in a pool and progressed to swimming.

He played water polo for Fullerton Community College in the summer of 2009, but a shoulder injury that required surgery halted that pursuit.

While at Costa Mesa, he helped the Mustangs win three straight Golden West League titles in swimming. Additionally, he helped Mesa win the league crown in water polo as a senior and finish second and advance to the CIF Southern Section playoffs as a junior.
