Needham to UCI

Karleene Needham, a senior at Rim of the World High, is the latest signee announced by the UC Irvine women’s soccer program.

Needham had 28 goals and 14 assists in the 2010-11 season, when the three-time all-league performer was also All-CIF Southern Section.

Needham played club soccer at Legends FC (2008-10), West Coast FC (2010-11), and is currently with Platinum FC .

“[Needham] is a player who I saw for the first time from a distance across two fields,” UCI Coach Scott Juniper said. “She fired a shot from 30 yards into the top corner of the net and it was such a well-taken shot I scribbled an “URGENT” note in my book to find out who she was. Since then, I have seen Kalene develop into a fearsome forward who has the potential to become a prolific goal-scorer at the D-I level.”

UCI won back-to-back Big West Conference regular-season titles and went to the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and 2011, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2010.
