High School Roundup: Estancia’s Beck delivers no-hitter

COSTA MESA — Estancia High senior Ben Beck (3-1) pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks to lead the Eagles to an 18-0 Orange Coast League win over Saddleback Tuesday.

Alex Chairez led Estancia (7-3, 3-1) at the plate, going five for five with five runs batted in and three runs with a triple and a double.

Tyler Rios (three for six, two RBIs, double), Johnathan Ball (two for three, two RBIs, double), Steven Macias (two for five, two RBIs, one run) and Eric Molina (five runs, one RBI, four walks) also contributed for the Eagles, which had 16 hits, five extra base hits and 10 walks.

Estancia plays against Calvary Chapel Thursday at Vanguard University.

BASEBALL

Newport Harbor 3, Marina 2 (eight innings)

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors’ Shaun Vetrovec hit a dramatic walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, stunning the first-place Vikings in the Sunset League game Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

Taylor Parks produced a hit with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the eighth. Vetrovec then hit the first pitch he saw over the left-field fence.

Connor Seabold pitched seven innings for Newport Harbor, allowing just one earned run on three hits. He struck out 10 Marina (3-1 in league) batters.

Jake Norton was two for two with a pair of doubles and was hit by a pitch for Newport Harbor (6-4, 2-2 in league). Seybold had an RBI double and Parks was two for three.

Newport Harbor plays at Los Alamitos on Thursday.

Sage Hill 9, St. Margaret’s 5

NEWPORT COAST — Freshman Conner Bock went four for five with four runs batted in for the Lightning in the Academy League game Tuesday.

Junior Harrison Rhee went four for four with two RBIs and senior Ryan Fishel was three for four with two RBI as part of Sage Hill’s 14-hit attack. The Lightning is 3-1 in league.

IRVINE — Brett Olson went two for three with two doubles and a run batted in for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.

Nick Roco also drove in a run with a single for CdM (4-6, 1-3 in league), which plays host to Woodbridge Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Corona del Mar def. Irvine

IRVINE — Joey Martino had 16 kills and 12 digs to help lead the Sea Kings to a 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 27-25 Pacific Coast League win Tuesday.

Ryan Moss had 11 kills and three blocks, Tommy Brooks added 13 kills and Matt Ctvrtlik finished with 44 assists for CdM (9-7, 3-0 in league), which plays host to Woodbridge on Friday.

COSTA MESA — Jacob Sperling had five kills for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League match Tuesday.

Laguna won, 25-12, 25-10, 25-15.

Estancia (0-8, 0-2 in league) plays at Godinez on Thursday.

CYPRESS — Senior Kent Kawaguchi produced 11 service aces, 13 digs, four kills and 10 assists as the Lightning improved to 2-0 in Academy League play with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-16 road win on Tuesday.

Nicky Boulos had 21 digs for Sage Hill.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Medalist Thomas Terry rolled in four birdies on his way to a one-under-par 35 for the Sailors in the Sunset League match at Mile Square Golf Course Tuesday.

Brad Tapfer (37), Landon Knight (37), Mason Moody (38) and Max Meisenheimer (39) also scored for Newport Harbor (10-1, 4-0 in league).

COSTA MESA — James Nashar shot five-over-par 42 to earned medalist honors for the Mustangs in the nonleague match at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Los Lagos course Monday.

Costa Mesa is 2-7.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Junior Courtland Lee shot two-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors for visiting Estancia in the Orange Coast League match Tuesday at Mile Square Golf Course.

Jake Stone (39), Aaron Wood (40), Bill Crosson (41) and Jake Beth (42) also scored for Estancia (5-4, 3-0 in league).

Calvary Chapel is 2-1 in league.

Estancia next faces Costa Mesa on Thursday at the Costa Mesa Country Club.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Reese Stalder won twice at No. 1 singles for the Sailors in the Sunset League match Tuesday.

Sean Perrier and Garrett Byers had a win at No. 1 doubles for Newport Harbor (8-6, 1-1 in league), which plays host to Edison on Wednesday.

COSTA MESA — Ryan Lee and Kenan Torlic took two of three doubles sets for the Lightning in Tuesday’s Academy League match.

Sage Hill also received one win each from the teams of Sam Sherman and Eric Magliarditi, and David Kim and Cole Solaas. Gordon Strelow was Sage’s lone singles winner.

The Lightning are now 0-9, 0-2 in league.

IRVINE — Molly Rovzar had six goals and two assists for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Monday.

Kacie Kline added four goals, Paige Miller had one goal and three assists and Meredith Davin caused one turnover and recorded one interception for CdM (7-2, 3-0 in league).
