Former UC Irvine men's volleyball coach John Speraw, who left the Anteaters after winning three national championships in 10 seasons to coach at his alma mater, UCLA, was named coach of the U.S. men's national team on Monday.
Speraw, in his first season at UCLA, which will visit UCI on Saturday at 7 p.m., will guide Team USA through the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was an assistant for the men's team in the last two Olympics, including a silver medal performance in 2008 in Beijing.
Speraw replaces Alan Knipe, who returned to his duties coaching the Long Beach State men's program.
