Davey a state champ

Newport Harbor High product Blake Davey, a sophomore at Cypress College, went four for 10 in three games, all wins, to help the Chargers win the state baseball championship over the weekend at Fresno City College.

Davey, a first-team All-Orange Empire Conference pick who played primarily designated hitter, finished the season hitting .323 with one home run and 33 runs batted in. He had 12 doubles, one triple, scored 30 runs and stole three bases.

In Fresno, he scored four times and drove in two runs.
