Kay Stafford Kates May 19, 1940-June 13, 2012

Kates Kay Stafford Kates, a long-time resident of LaCanada Flintridge, died peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, June 13th at Kaiser Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. She was 72.
Kay was born on May 19th, 1940, in Pocahontas, Iowa. She lived for several years in Clarksdale, Arizona and moved to Southern California in 1964, where she would spend the rest of her life.
She received her liberal arts degree in 1963 from Arizona State University, and continued her education at California Family Study Center where she received her master’s degree in marriage and family counseling. Soon after, she established a counseling practice in LaCanada and became a widely respected therapist.
Kay enjoyed reading, entertaining, socializing and collecting antiques. She was known for her loyalty as a friend and her extraordinary kindness. She was an active member of St. Bede Catholic Church in LaCanada.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; her children, Mike, Lisa and Matthew; grandchildren, Cash and Chanel; daughter-in-law, Kristy and son-in-law, Jerry.
