Iva Mae Bridwell, born in 1918 at her parents’ farmhouse in Buna, TX, passed away Sept. 18, 2012, in Daphne, AL, where she lived since 2008.
She was salutatorian at Buna High School and received a scholarship to attend Lamar College. Iva moved to California in 1939, eventually settling in Burbank. She worked for the phone company before teaching fifth grade for 21 years in Los Angeles. She extensively travelled around the world and touched the lives of students, friends, and family.
Iva was preceded in death by her husband (Major W. E. Bridwell, whom she married in 1945) and her sisters Mary Cohen and Euna Lee Lewis. She is survived by her sister (Juanita Beason, who now lives in Farmer’s Branch, TX) and by several nephews and nieces.
