Dr. Esther Coleman January 13, 1940 - January 21, 2013

Dr. Esther Coleman passed away suddenly at her Glendale home on January 21, 2013.

Esther was born January 13, 1940 to Johnnie and Beth Petersen in Bakersfield, California. She
worked as a public and home health nurse, later graduating from Fuller Theological Seminary
with a Master’s in Theology and a PhD in Psychology. A well-respected psychologist, she helped launch the doctoral practicum student program at Hillview Mental Health Center. She retired in 2010.

Esther and Ken Coleman were married in 1964. Five years later they adopted three children, who were the joy of her life. She and Ken also opened their home to many young people, including Thuan Le, who still refers to them as Mom and Dad.

An active volunteer, she spent time as a Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout den mother, and PTA president. She was a devoted member of Grandview Presbyterian Church and remained involved, despite her battle with breast cancer, in all aspects of church life from governance to bible study, right up until her passing.

Predeceased by her parents and Ken, her beloved husband of 46 years, Esther is survived by her
daughter,LauryKelly,Leominster,Massachusetts; and sons Gary Coleman, Olympia, Washington;
and Michael Coleman, Burbank, California, and her adored grandchildren Megan Kelly, Florida;
Shannon and Lauryn Kelly, Massachusetts; and Geoffrey Coleman, South Carolina.

She will be dearly missed for her warmth and her wisdom, her kindness and her caring, her fortitude and her faith.
