Mary Louise (Farr) Quackenbush, age 96, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, February 1, 2013, in Santa Barbara. Though her family roots were in Indiana, Mary was born on June 24, 1916, in East Palestine, Ohio. She moved with her parents Harry and Julia Farr to Glendale, CA, at age three. It was there she spent her formative years, married, and raised a family with Bob, her beloved husband of 63 years.

A graduate of Glendale High School, Glendale Community College, and UCLA (B.A. in Education), Mary taught elementary school for several years, before becoming a full time mother. Her love for education was passed on to their three children, as was her love for the Lord. Her faith was the center of her life as evidenced by the many scripture verses underlined in her Bible.

Mary and Bob retired to Santa Barbara in 1978. Here she enjoyed family, friends, church, and
traveling. A loving wife, mother, and friend, Mary was committed to supporting the Lord’s work, loved hymns and show tunes (she had a great singing voice), and also was an excellent cook and baker!

She is survived by her children, Katy Weldon of Ventura, Carol (John) Norton, of Palm Desert, and Robert (Kathy) Quackenbush of Carpinteria, as well as many other loving relatives. Thanks to all of the wonderful caregivers and medical personnel who made Mom’s last years special.

Interment at Santa Barbara Cemetery, Santa Barbara, CA (arrangements by Welch-Ryce-Haider).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Latin American Assistance, P.O. Box 123, Solvang,
