Glendale Quilt Guild’s 34th annual Quilt Show weaves families together

Activities for the whole family are stitched into the Glendale Quilt Guild’s 34th annual Quilt Show beginning Thursday night through Sunday at the Burbank Airport Marriott Convention Center.

The theme is “Any Holiday on Quilts.” Opening night features professional quilter and entertainer Joe Cunningham, who sings about how he became a quilter. A reception follows, with a chance to meet fellow quilters, instructors and vendors. The rest of the weekend offers a quilt display, workshops, boutique and vendors selling quilting supplies.

Husbands will get free admission on Sunday and children under 12 are admitted free all three days. There is a teen sewing camp, as well as a scavenger hunt and other activities for children.

One of the special drawing prizes each year is the Opportunity Quilt, said Caren Cooke Ryan, show co-chairwoman. This year’s quilt is titled “Holi-daze,” in keeping with the theme. Every block represents a holiday and was made by a guild member.

Tina Curran designed the quilt and gave guild members a packet with the pattern. Curran sewed the blocks together and added the border fabric decorated with confetti and streamers.

“The blocks show all the different levels of complexity to match up with the spectrum of talent we have in the guild,” Curran said.
