Rosealma R. "Rose" Loewe 1919 - 2013

Rosealma R. “Rose” Loewe was born in Topsham, Maine, in 1919 and passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in San Luis Obispo. Often calling herself a “Mainiac,” a play on the name of her birth state, Mom greeted each person she encountered with her beautiful smile.

Rose married Arthur, the man of her dreams, and raised a family, Ron, Don, and Darlene, in Glendale. The children were Rose’s pride and joy, and all three children learned many valuable life lessons from Rose and Arthur.

While Arthur fought in World War II, Rose worked at the Bath Shipyards in Maine. When the War was over, they moved to California with their two sons. For over 20 years Rose worked as a waitress at the Tam O’Shanter restaurant, the Verdugo Club and the Oakmont Country Club, having served well-known people like Walt Disney, Errol Flynn and Casey Stengel, to name a few.

After having raised her children, Mom became a dutiful caregiver for her aging parents, and eventually for her husband, having shared care and joy with all of them.

Rose and Arthur traveled extensively around the USA, some with lifelong friends. They also sailed the Eastern seaboard, rafted the Colorado River and cruised around Australia, to Alaska and through the Panama Canal.

After Arthur passed and under the watchful eye of her children, Rose moved to the Village at Sydney Creek in San Luis Obispo CA, where she received wonderful care for over 10 years. Her smile, French lessons and sense of humor made her a favorite among the staff.

Rose leaves behind her three children, Ron Loewe (Pat) of Sea Isle City, NJ; Don Loewe of
Glendale and Darlene Kellett (Ken) of Los Osos, CA; two grandchildren in New Jersey, Jennifer Rose (Steve) and Michael Loewe; and Mom’s first great grandchild, Jack Joseph Piskadlo, born Tuesday, Feb.12, 2013.

A celebration of Rose’s life was held March 16, 2013, at the Village at Sydney Creek. Donations
in honor of Rosealma can be made to the Sydney Creek Employees’ Fund, at 1234 Laurel Lane, San Luis Obipso, CA 93401.
