Hazel Kieser quietly passed away on May 3, 2013, at the age of 104.

Hazel was born on July 2, 1908, in La Verne, California. She and her beloved husband James “Jimmy” Kieser were longtime residents of Glendale and active members of the community.

Hazel was a prolific writer of short stories and poetry. She loved to write and reminisce about the many adventures she and Jimmy experienced in their travels and the friendships they made along the way. Anyone lucky enough to meet Hazel and Jimmy quickly learned that their home was open to all. They truly believed that life was meant to be shared. One of those lucky people was Graham Langford of England, who became a lifelong friend. He remembers meeting them as a young man on a trip to Zocalo Cuernavaca, Mexico. Hazel and Jimmy invited him back to their home in Glendale and gave him a job at their company, Atom Heating. They became second parents to him and he is forever indebted to them for their kindness and love.

Hazel was known for her graciousness and generosity. She was active in Altrusa and Nichi Bei Fujin Kai and supported many other charities and organizations. One of her favorites was Plan USA, of which she supported many “adopted” children.

Hazel is survived by her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Sondra and Dennie Schweigert, her grandchildren, Shery and John Shirilla, Jim and June Schweigert, Brad and Brooke Schweigert, and Lois Schweigert, her great-grandchildren, and her sister, Janet Wheeler.

Rest well, Hazel. You lived a great life. We pray you are at peace and back in the loving embrace of your beloved Jimmy.
