Richard Boss, a 50 year resident of La Canada Flintridge, passed away peacefully and comfortably in his sleep on Friday, July 12, 2013. He had been battling Melanoma for six months. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Lillian Boss, their two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory (Linda) and Steven (Evelyn) and seven grandchildren - Gregory Jr, Geoffrey, Garrett, Griffin, Gillian, Brooks and Owen - who were his pride and joy.

Richard was born in 1931 in Stockton, California and moved to Southern California with his Mother and Father in 1940. He graduated from Occidental College in 1952, where he met Lillian, and they were married in 1954. Dick, as he was known to his friends, went on to earn a Masters Degree in Engineering from USC in 1955, and he then worked nearly 40 years as a sales and marketing executive for the IBM Corporation.

Dick and Lillian moved to La Canada Flintridge in 1963, where they raised their children and where they lived until early 2013, when they moved to Pasadena. Dick’s great joy was to spend time with his family and his grand children, to whom he was deeply devoted. Dick developed a passion for the Hawaiian Islands following a two year service in the Army as a decoder stationed in Honolulu during the Korean War. He and Lillian spent many summers returning to Hawaii with their family over the years and considered it his second home.

Among Dick’s other joys was playing golf on Mondays with a foursome of long-time friends. He will be missed by his family and his many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The City of Hope at www.cityofhope.org/connection or 866-683-HOPE.
