Dolores K. Shaffer

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Dolores, on September 9, 2013. Dolores was born in Kankakee, IL in 1927. She married Joseph Shaffer Jr. in 1948. After living a few years in Indiana where they started their family and Joe’s aerospace engineer career, they moved to La Canada in 1959. Joe worked at JPL and Dolores continued to raise their six children. Dolores returned to working outside the home when she became a secretary in the USC Physics Dept. where she remained for almost 20 years. After Joe and Dolores both retired, they traveled throughout the USA in their motor home, visiting relatives and seeing new sights. They especially enjoyed spectacular Alaska.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Joseph. She is survived by her six children: Carolyn Ricketts, Ronald Shaffer, James Shaffer, Michael Shaffer, Patrick Shaffer and Timothy Shaffer. She also has 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
