Community: Altrusa donates to backpack project

Share

Altrusa Club of Glendale recently made a $1,000 donation to the School on Wheels that went to purchasing backpacks for homeless children and helped the charity set a Guinness World Record.

Altrusa president Donnalee Monninger, vice president Julie Vagts and service projects chairwoman Pat Donlin presented the check to Desiree Ting, regional coordinator for the Glendale, Burbank and Pasadena School on Wheels program, at the learning center in downtown Los Angeles.

The donation purchased backpacks that were included in the challenge where more than 2,000 backpacks were laid out on the Alumni Field on the Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus in September. The Guinness World Record was set for the Longest Line of Backpacks. The backpacks will go to the homeless children in tutoring programs throughout Southern California.

Altrusa Club of Glendale is a service organization that focuses on literacy.
