Maria de los Angeles Ximenez Guerra passed away on February 6, 2014 in La Canada Flintridge. She was 88 years old.

She was born on December 4, 1925, in Hebbronville, Texas, and was the third of five daughters born to Fernando and Virginia Ximenez. She attended Hebbronville High School and graduated in 1944. She then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and became an elementary and middle school teacher.

She met Rodrigo Guerra in the early 1950s and they married soon thereafter. They lived in Pasadena, California, where they raised three children, Rodrigo, Jr., Lauro and Anna Maria.

Maria was passionate about education. In the 1970s, she went door to door to recruit families to attend a bilingual program that she developed for the Pasadena school system. Her three children graduated from Polytechnic School in Pasadena, and she was so proud of their life-long accomplishments.

In her later years, she cared for her ailing husband but also cherished the time spent with her granddaughters. She kept active and loved to garden.

Maria was a devoted wife, a loving and supportive mother, a trusted sister, and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses and her granddaughters, Marne, Natalie, Olivia and Marisa. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia de la Zerda, as well as her nieces and nephews and other relatives in Texas and California.
