Community: Society columnist announces engagement

News-Press columnist Ruth Sowby, of Glendale, and Richard Matheson Rands Jr., of La Crescenta, have announced their engagement and will be joined in matrimony during a spring wedding. They will honeymoon in Cedar City, Utah.

Sowby is an English professor at Glendale Community College in addition to providing coverage of social events in her News-Press column. Rands is an electrical engineer at Datalogic in Pasadena.

They met on a Mormon Internet dating service. They had been at the same church singles’ party, but never met there.

“It took the dating service to bring us together,” she said. “We are both active in our local wards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

They will live in Sowby’s home in Glendale.
