Organizations: Retired teachers meet for holiday luncheon

The Glendale Foothill Division of the California Retired Teachers Assn. will have its luncheon meeting on Dec. 6 at the Elks Lodge, 120 E. Colorado St., Glendale. Social time begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. The cost is $12, and reservations can be made by calling (818) 246-3205 by Dec. 2. Retired educators and retirees who wish to join the association are encouraged to attend the meeting. The group meets five times a year.

Guests will be entertained by the popular Verdugo Hills Showtime Chorus who are members of the Sweet Adelines International. They will perform holiday selections in four-part a capella harmony in barbershop style.

Youngsters can compete in hoops contest

Glendale Elks Lodge No. 1289 invites all boys and girls ages 8 through 13 to participate in its annual Hoop Shoot basketball competition at 8 a.m. Dec. 11 at the Hoover High School gym, 651 Glenwood Road, Glendale.

Winners who qualify will go on to represent their respective schools at district, regional and national competitions.

This competition is open to all students who have qualified to represent their public or private schools in the Glendale area. Schools that wish to participate should contact John Jolly, Glendale Hoop Shoot chairman, at (818) 242-2105 or Hoopshoot1289@aol.com.
