La Cañada burglary suspects arrested after car crash in Glendale
Crescenta Valley Sheriff Station deputies took four burglary suspects into custody Sunday morning after their alleged getaway vehicle crashed on a Glendale freeway off-ramp while they were reportedly fleeing from deputies, according to authorities.
The pursuit began around 9:30 a.m. after a deputy spotted a gray Lexus driving recklessly down the southbound 2 Freeway in La Cañada Flintridge. The pursuit then w moved onto the 210 Freeway before jumping back onto the 2 Freeway.
Sheriff’s Det. Rodger Burt said deputies ended the chase for safety reasons because the fleeing vehicle began to travel as fast as 100 mph on the freeway.
Within seconds of calling off the pursuit, a deputy saw that a collision had occurred on the Mountain Street off-ramp involving the fleeing vehicle. Burt said the car appeared to have sideswiped another vehicle before crashing into an embankment.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
Three men and a woman who had been in the fleeing vehicle tried to leave the scene but were soon taken into custody by deputies, according to Burt.
They were identified as Los Angeles residents Luis Moreno, 19, Corey Walker, 18, Jaquan Murphy, 20, and 18-year-old Deserey Garcia from Long Beach.
Burt said the group had left behind jewelry in the vehicle that was connected to a residential burglary that occurred earlier in the morning in La Cañada Flintridge at a home in the 800 block of Lynnhaven Lane.
Residents of the home were brought in by deputies and identified the jewelry as theirs, according to Burt.
