Republican party officials, local residents and members of the
Armenian American Republican Council convened Saturday night to honor
former California Gov. George Deukmejian at the Hilton Glendale.
Deukmejian received a Lifetime Achievement Award by the council for his
contributions to the political party and to the Armenian community. James
Rogan, a former Glendale congressman and present U.S. undersecretary of
commerce for intellectual property and director of the U.S. Patent
Trademark Office, was the keynote speaker for the event. Republican
candidate for governor Bill Simon, L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich
and California Republican Party Chairman Shawn Steel attended the gala.
