The 411 on the upcoming youth season

As the pictures to the right of me illustrate, the youth season is

far from being over. With the high school athletic campaign ready to

get into full swing starting later this week, much of our attention

will be focused on covering the area’s eight local schools.

But that doesn’t mean we sports writers are going to forget about

the area’s youth scene.

Thanks to the Youth Page -- published Tuesdays -- the News-Press,

for the first time, will be able to provide comprehensive coverage of

the area’s AYSO and Pop Warner teams.

And just like the spring season, we are going to need the

community’s help to make this work.

As one can imagine, it is nearly impossible to cover both high

school and youth sports at the same time, especially considering that

there are nearly 150 youth events happening each week. But with that

said, we would still like to publish all the results, and that’s were

we need your help.

Please let us know of any game results or anything else associated

with the area’s youth scene by e-mailing me at or faxing the News-Press at 241-1975.

It may seem like an impossible task -- publishing every result --

but we feel it can be done. The more results we get, the bigger the

section will become.

Also, we still have not received any of the schedules for AYSO or

Pop Warner events. Since we photograph a game per week, it is

imperative that we receive the schedules as soon as possible.

Thanks again for your help, and we look to forward to providing

comprehensive youth coverage for the community.
